3rd Kalam Youth Summit was organized in the premises of Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur on 02-03 December, 2017. Organizers of this program were Kalam Foundation and Social Empowerment Society, co-organizer of Vigyan Bharti, media partner Dainik Jagran, web partner Navi Arthkranti, Other associates Childline Gorakhpur, Digital Empowerment Foundation, Ehsas Welfare Foundation, Natural Social Welfare Foundation etc. During the Kalam Youth Summit, on the first day of the program, Mega Science and Technology Expo, NGO Meet, Kalam Science Film Festival was organized. On the second day the program- Young Scientist Meet, Smart Village, and competition at the national level, Mega Science and Technology Expo, Group Discussion and prize distribution was organised.
Non-government organizations working on the field of science and rural development were invited in NGO Meet, in which 20 organizations were selected from all over the country. During NGO Meet the representatives of the organizations told about the functions of their organization and shared their experiences. In the Kalam Science Film Festival, 150 students from the Primary, Junior and Secondary level schools of rural area were selected, in which science films were showcased on new experiments to create interest in science among the students. During Film Festival session’s, workshop were organized to know experiences of the children.
On the second day of the Kalam Youth Summit Program, Dr. Arif Khan, Former Addl. Director, DRDO, Government of India, was chair, and the Chief Guest was Prof. Srinivas Singh VC, Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur, Special Guest was Mr. Suresh Chandra Sharma, Regional Science Officer of Uttar Pradesh Science and Technology Council. The second session was organized on the subject of Zero Hunger program because Gorakhpur district had been selected for this program of the United Nations, as a pilot project.
After the lunch, three projects were selected in the session for final presentation. First, the search engine based on education of Varinder Bajarh and STARTUP of Indian Science Quiz, Second, “A sustainable approach to reduce water contamination using duckweed” by Dr. Amit Kesarwani, Assistant Professor of Pantagar University. The third by Dr. Swaiti Gangawar, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department, Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology Gorakhpur, on “Reuse waste materials”.
A session was organized on Dr. Kalam’s dream project PURA (Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas), named ‘Smart Village’. Summit Secretary Ambar Bandopadhyay presented the key notes of this program. Mr. Dilip Tripathi, village head of village Hasuri Ausanpur, located in Siddhartha Nagar district UP, was selected for this program. By the efforts of Dilip Tripathi, his village is the first Smart Village in UP.
At the last session of the summit, three youths were awarded with ‘Youth Ratna Award’ and 5 others with ‘Kalam Achievers Award’ for his special contribution. Youth Ratna Awardees were selected on the basis of written examination KTSE 2017 (Kalam Talent Search Exam), group discussion followed by interview. Km. Priyansha Shukla, Harshvardhan Singh and Kalyan Dev were selected for the Youth Ratna Award.
